As a long time sponsor of the Deke Grussendorf Volunteer of the Year Award, this year the Hermantown Area Chamber of Commerce aims to elevate the participation and recognition of the award. The Chamber will partner with the City of Hermantown and the Hermantown Community Schools to select the Deke Grussendorf Volunteer of the Year Award.

The mission and purpose of the Deke Grussendorf award is to recognize, encourage and inspire. Recognize community volunteers, encourage continued volunteerism and inspire others to volunteer.

The Deke Grussendorf Volunteer of the Year is a person that has gone beyond the call of duty for the Hermantown community within the last year. (July-June). They have shown exceptional dedication to the community and have helped the community or others in our community become more successful. The adult volunteer named will be honored each year at Summer Fest.

Nominations are due June 30th by 5PM and must be submitted to the Hermantown Area Chamber of Commerce by either mail or email. Late nominations will not be accepted. Forms can be found at HermantownChamber.com or can be picked up at City Hall, School Administration Office or the Chamber Office.

There are two requirements: 1. Complete and submit the application form, 2. The person you nominate must be available to attend the Concert in the Park on Thursday, July 14th from 5:45-6:00PM. Additionally, we would appreciate if the person nominated would be available on Saturday, July 16th to ride in the Summer Fest Parade.

The Volunteer of the Year will receive wide recognition for their extraordinary efforts and a plaque for their achievement. In addition a perpetual plaque will be displayed in the City Council Chamber.

The Volunteer of the Year award was named in honor of long time Hermantown resident, business owner and active community member, Deke Grussendorf, who created a legacy of serving the community. Prior to serving as Hermantown Mayor, Dan Urshan developed the Deke Grussendorf Volunteer of the Year award in 1994. The Hermantown Area Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the award since it’s inception.
