Educational Spelling Challenge raises $46,000

The Hermantown Schools PTO held the 2016 Educational Spelling Challenge fundraiser for grades K-5 from October 24 – November 11 and the challenge raised a record amount of over $46,000.

Students learned 30 age-appropriate spelling words and asked family and friends to sponsor them for each correctly spelled word on the spelling test or give a flat donation.

This is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year, with 99 percent of the money raised going back to the school.  Without this fundraiser, the PTO would not be able to financially support programs such as:  anti-bullying presentations, annual art shows, classroom supplies, educational software, field trip transportation, new gym and playground equipment, new science and math tools, the second grade dog sled experience, and the fifth grade cultural experience, just to name a few.

With great appreciation, we would also like to thank the local businesses that donated money and prizes to help make this fundraiser a huge success!
